Inventive and eclectic, this site in the Minneapolis Como neighborhood showcases use of recycled materials, sustainable living, and renewable energy technologies executed as a fine craft.
The roof hosts one 35 watt Unisolar panel which runs a DC circulation pump, powering a solar hot water system. The solar thermal system is comprised of 100 square feet of flat panel collectors and 22 six-foot evacuated closed loop tubes. The system provides 100% of the studio space heating and 80% of domestic hot water. Passive solar features include an OVE framed in-floor radiant 250 cubic foot concrete thermal storage heat distribution slab on grade, passive Venturi ventilation system, and a roof ridge mounted skylight for daylighting. A 250 square foot green roof, crops varying by year, shares the roof with the solar thermal system. The home has a kitchen installed compost collection bin, two outdoor compost bins, a north roof pitch rainwater catchment system, solar powered attic fan, and parabolic solar oven for cooking, |
